The Jaisalmer Indo-Pak Border is located in western Rajasthan and stretches across the vast Thar Desert. This region is guarded by the Indian Army and Border Security Force (BSF) and holds great strategic importance for national security. The harsh desert terrain makes border surveillance challenging and vital. The area gained historical significance during the 1971 Indo-Pak War, especially near Longewala.
Some parts of the border are open to tourists, offering a chance to witness border life and patriotic ceremonies. However, many locations, including border villages and the Zero Line, are restricted and require prior permission from authorities. Photography is strictly limited in sensitive zones. The best time to visit is from October to March due to pleasant weather. A visit to this border offers insight into India’s defense strength and the sacrifices of its soldiers.
Tanot Mata Temple is one of the most sacred and revered temples located near the Indo-Pak border in Rajasthan. During the 1971 Indo-Pak War, hundreds of bombs were dropped around the temple area. Remarkably, most of these bombs did not explode, leaving the temple completely unharmed. This extraordinary event strengthened the faith of Indian soldiers in Tanot Mata’s divine protection.
Since then, the temple has been deeply respected by the Indian Army and locals alike. Today, Tanot Mata Temple is managed by the Border Security Force (BSF) and remains open to devotees and visitors. Surrounded by the vast Thar Desert, the temple stands as a powerful symbol of faith, courage, and hope even in times of war. Visiting Tanot Mata Temple offers spiritual peace and a deep sense of patriotism.

The Longewala War Memorial stands as a proud tribute to the courage and sacrifice of Indian soldiers during the 1971 Battle of Longewala. In this historic battle, a small unit of Indian troops successfully defended their post against a much larger Pakistani force, showcasing extraordinary bravery and determination.
Visitors to the memorial can explore real army tanks, bunkers, and military equipment used during the war. Informative displays and war timelines provide insight into the events of the battle. A powerful light and sound show narrates the heroic story, bringing history to life. The memorial leaves visitors with deep respect and pride for the Indian Armed Forces.
The iconic Bollywood film “Border” (1997) is based on the historic Battle of Longewala during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. Directed by J. P. Dutta, the movie brought the bravery of Indian soldiers to the big screen and became one of India’s most patriotic films.
The film featured powerful performances by Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, and Akshaye Khanna, making the story emotionally unforgettable. Many scenes in the movie were inspired by real events at Longewala. Watching Border and then visiting the actual battlefield gives visitors a unique experience, as cinematic moments turn into real-life history, deepening respect for the sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces.
Bawaliyanwala is a lesser-known yet historically significant location near the Indo-Pak border. This area reflects the raw reality of border life, where harsh weather conditions and isolation shape everyday experiences. The region holds importance due to its strategic position and connection to past military activities.
Access to Bawaliyanwala may be limited because of security regulations, and visitors often require special permission. Despite this, its presence adds depth to the overall border narrative. Bawaliyanwala stands as a reminder of the challenges faced by those who live and serve in remote border areas, highlighting resilience and dedication beyond the well-known sites.
Republic Day celebrates India’s Constitution and democratic values. Visiting the Indo-Pak Border on this day connects travelers directly to the spirit of nationalism, reminding us of the responsibility we share as citizens toward our nation and those who protect it.
This 4-day itinerary is carefully designed for travelers who want to explore Rajasthan’s heritage, desert landscapes, and the historic Longewala battlefield. All border visits are subject to local permissions and army guidelines.
EXCELLENT Based on 139 reviews Posted on Scott MVerified Yogi my brother, you are the BEST! I recently spent two weeks on an incredible journey in Rajasthan, India. Yogi and his team of drivers and guides far surpassed my expectations. I joined a small tour of six people that was organized by a friend, Karen Score, of Grace in Nature Unlimited. Karen has extensive travel experience in India and across the globe. She has hired “India By Yogi Private Tours” for years and now only works with them. Now that I’ve had the experience, I understand why she will only work with Yogi and his team. From the moment we arrived at the airport in Delhi to the moment we departed, Yogi ushered us in first class style though our entire adventure. Our group traveled from Delhi to Udaipur, Jodphur to Jaipur, then Agra and back to Delhi. They worked very hard to make sure we did not. Yogi executed Karen’s ambitious and well balanced itinerary beautifully. Yogi was comfortable in all settings: palaces and museums, mosques and temples, elegant hotels, on bicycle rickshaws, desert sunset camel rides, and in the shops of highly skilled artisans. He handled and organized access to all sites, guides, tips, and restaurant choices. On longer drives he had well timed stops for chai, snack breaks and clean bathrooms. There were always various drinks and snacks in the transport vans and cars. Our luggage was managed with care at all hotels. He helped us with local etiquette and always made sure we were safe. It all went flawlessly, and, when obstacles popped up, they were resolved with both class and expediency. Yogi and his team also took time to get to know each of us in the group. He made sure that our itinerary either dropped or added destinations or cultural events based on our interests and tastes. Just one personal example of this is that I am a lover of motorcycles. I started to ask Yogi about the motorcycles of India, especially the Royal Enfield. Yogi smiled and handed me his phone with a picture of his Royal Enfield motorcycle. I then shared with him a picture of my 1968 BSA Thunderbolt. After this I started calling Yogi my “bro” and explained the affectionate term. On our journey from Udaipur to Jodhpur, we unexpectedly pulled over at an unscheduled surprise stop. It was sunset. Yogi pulled out a bottle of rum and said he had been saving it for a long time, but no one on his tours had been a motorcycle enthusiast before. As our group crossed the road toward what appeared to be an unknown celebration of some kind, Yogi explained that the rum is an offering for the Om Singh Rathore/Bullet Baba Temple. The shrine is dedicated to the beloved prince Om Singh Rathore, who died at the site in 1988 on his Royal Enfield motorcycle. Yogi timed it perfectly, and I was able to do an offering with him. We stayed to watch the daily sunset ritual. It was beautiful and, for me, moving on many levels. This is one example of how Yogi went out of his way to enrich the trip and to establish caring and personal connections. Yogi my brother, you are the BEST. If you are planning a trip. I can’t recommend Yogi and his team highly enough. Namaste.Posted on Global16058583898Verified 15 days trip in Rajasthan The 15-day private driver tour of Rajasthan with Yogi Private Tours was truly amazing!
