The Delhi-Agra-Jaipur circuit, popularly known as the Golden Triangle, probably attracts more tourists than the rest of India put together. The breathtaking beauty of the Taj, the Rajput splendor of the “Pink City“, and the strange amalgamation of the ancient and modern that go to make India’s capital city create a heady magic mix potent enough to satisfy the casual visitor, seductive enough to lure the serious traveler further in. Here’s a couple of quick 4 and 5 day itineraries- the minimum time required to see these cities. You could either extend your stay in any city or add on other packages like a wildlife sanctuary visit or a camel safari.

Day 1: Delhi  
Arrive in Delhi and check into your hotel. A half-day sightseeing tour of historical monuments like the Qutub Minar, Humayun’s Tomb, India Gate, and Parliament House. In the evening, catch the sound and light show at the Red Fort, another important Mughal monument. Overnight Delhi.

Day 2: Delhi – Agra  
After breakfast drive 200 km to Agra, the city of the Taj Mahal and one of the most popular destinations in the world. Visit Akbar’s tomb at Sikandra, enroute to Agra. Check into your hotel. Then, a visit to the Taj Mahal with a guide. Also, visit the Agra Fort which was designed as a military base by Akbar. Overnight Agra.

Day 3: Agra – Jaipur  
After breakfast drive 240 km to the pink city of Jaipur via the imposing monument of Fatehpur Sikri. Arrive in Jaipur and check into your hotel. Half-day sightseeing of Jaipur city. Visit the Jantar Mantar, Hawa-Mahal, City Palace, and the bazaars of Jaipur for some excellent shopping. Overnight Jaipur.

Day 4: Jaipur  
After breakfast visits the old Rajput capital, the Amber Fort, with a guide. Take an elephant ride to the ramparts of the fort. Later, catch up with your shopping and sightseeing in the city. Have dinner at Chokhi Dhani, an open-air ethnic place with folk dancers and musicians and authentic Rajasthani cuisine. Overnight Jaipur.

Day 5: Jaipur and onward
Return to Delhi or transfer to Jaipur airport and fly out to your next destination. Or you could extend your stay in Rajasthan by taking a trip to the wildlife sanctuaries at Sariska or Ranthambore or taking a camel safari in the Shekhawati region or at Jaisalmer.
